Purls' Touch of Charity!

As the summer is quickly closing in on us! Just wanted to give an update on our last KAL.

Our Summer Charity KAL was a HUGE success!! :o)

For the months of June, July and August the Purls were knitting and crocheting up washcloths focusing on pregnant women & teenagers, as well as women victim to domestic violence.

Our last donation we had 68 washcloths collectively for the months of July & August donating to the Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network (CVAN).

WHOOOOOA!!!!

CVAN offers services for battered women, their children and rape survivors.
Including a 24-hour crisis line, support groups for battered women, shelter with a fee of $1 per day or 1 hour work for common good per day, and much much more!

We had a GRAND TOTAL for the entire summer (all 3 months) of 109 washcloths donated to both Florence Crittenton Services and Cabarrus Victims Assistance NetworkAlong with TONS of health and beauty aid (HBA) products donated by the Charlotte Purls!!

You all really came thru on this charity project!!

THANK YOU to all the Purls who gave their touch of charity by giving back to the community with your time and treasure! You ladies are awesome!!! :o)

Giving Back Feels SO Good! :o)

Our Summer Charity KAL kicked-off with a BANG!! :o)

For the months of June, July and August the Purls are knitting and crocheting up washcloths focusing on women victim to domestic violence, as well as pregnant women & teenagers, and homeless shelters.

We had 41 washcloths for June

and a TON of health and beauty aid (HBA) products donated by the Charlotte Purls!!

June's donations went to Florence Crittenton Services!

This site is a residential home for single woman and adolescents that have nowhere else to go while they are pregnant, and typically do not have many personal items while still trying to prepare for a new life to be born soon.

THANK YOU to all the Purls who gave back to the community with your time and treasure!

There is still more time to keep giving! We will be knitting/crocheting up washcloths and collecting HBA products in July & August!!

Helmet Liner

I have already complete two helmet liners which will be donated to members of the Armed Forces. The pattern specifies the use of wool. I had some left over Knit Picks Wool of the Andes for the first one I made and it worked well. Wool of the Andes is worsted weight.

All knitters/crocheters are encouraged to participate in this service project. Completed helmet liners can be dropped off at the Mint Hill Branch Library located on 6840 Matthews Mint Hill Rd.

In the mail

The baby hats are in the mail, on their way to San Francisco and the afghans for Afghans US collection point.

I had some fun taking pictures of the twelve hats I sent in my office.

Ignore that inbox--there are handknits to photograph!

This is my favorite: I spent WAY too long trying to get this pyramid to stay up.

Beary Blue Hat

This is my last hat and I need to get back to Christmas gifts!!! This hat was basically the same as the grey one - CO 88 of a sport weight yarn. Use a size 3 needle. Rib (either 1X1 or 2X2 for an inch), plain knit for 4 inches, then decrease for the top. This is also my Shrek hat because I made most of him while watchine Shrek 3 with the kids. I used Nature Spun Sport in Blue Bell for the hat. It was a bit crunchy at first, I think the yarn has sat in a warehouse for a looooong time. But it soften up the once I got past the first layer on the cone. I think I will have to go ahead and make the sweater for my son I was planning with the rest :)

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Thanksgiving Hat

I finished this little hat on Thanksgiving Day. I hope all of the Charlotte Purls had a great Thanksgiving. We had a food filled day with family and fun at my parents. My sister an I had time to steal away and knit, and mom even joined us for a few moments and crocheted a while. I'm thankful for those moments with both of them!

This hat was made with a sale yarn from Cottage yarns I've never heard of before and can't recall. But it's a soft, sport-weight, superwash. I like how it knits up even and looks a bit heathery. I put it on top of a cone of Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sportweight that I'm going to try to make another hat from before the deadline. I love Nature Spun and have been looking for something to use this pretty blue on. :)

Yay, baby hats!

I'm so excited about this project--thanks to everyone who's getting involved! I just wanted to mention that if you want a few extra days for your projects you can also mail items directly to afghans for Afghans. Their deadline to receive items is December 3rd, and the contact info/address is here: http://www.afghansforafghans.org/blanket.html
They have some cute pattern suggestions, too!

Oh yeah: I forgot to bring the hats I've made to the meeting Saturday, so I'll post them here (even though they aren't as cute as the others)

And I'm going to try out this pattern from Knitting to Go: tiny baby socks! So cute!

Still Time! afghans for Afghans

Hey Purls! There is still time to knit up those cute little hats for our group charity project afghans for Afghans (a4A), commissioned by Alison. There were 3 cute hats at our recent meeting (Connie, Janet, and Stacey). But we still need more!!

But now there were only 2 hats left...... ;oD
Just couldn't resist gifting this while Mr. Jonas tried it on....back to knitting up more hats!

There is still time!

If you would like to participate and knit up a hat then Alison will be sending them all together in one shipping package in Charlotte Purls name!

Please e-mail Alison about mailing OR meeting up with her with your hat which all will be needed no later than next Monday November 26th. Great quick Thanksgiving holiday knitting! :o)

If that baby pic above doesn't motivate you to knit up a quick hat, then I am not sure what will! :o)
